“What are you without your dreams?”
The question dropped into my awareness with a thunderous thud, a sound so deafening it sent shockwaves straight into my heart.
Let me assure you that it is profoundly arresting to declare your prayers for relief unanswered, to acknowledge your wishes for freedom unrealized, to hear your dreams of paradise dripping into the cosmic gutter. What kind of cruel world would have us accept this as true? Who would we be without our eager anticipation of the goodness that awaits, our hope of the better that is yet to come?
But as harsh as these words were, they went so deep that I didn’t have a choice but to listen. It was soul-shaking to sit without access to the visions I so lovingly crafted to soothe my weary bones, the shiny possibilities I have been running towards my whole life. It felt like mourning my own existence, silently sitting vigil with my body as it settled into eternal stillness.
And then - just like that - I got it.
I stood up, opened the curtains, and saw that the entire landscape was white. I could feel the frosty air tickle my nose through the glass, and the early morning light ever so softly illuminated the millions of snowflakes floating gently towards the earth. It was and continues to be magical in the fullest sense of the word, pregnant with equal measures of awe and wonder.
I have never seen the world look so innocent, so pure, so perfect. The crisp white landscape was not a forlorn absence of color - as my powerful question might suggest - it was the ultimate artist’s palette. It was a new dawn, a fresh start, an arrow pointing right to the truth of what white really is: the simultaneous presence of every single color in the spectrum of visible light.
So maybe this is what happens when you release your dreams. You go back to peace, you go back to potential, you go back to the bright white light where it all began. This remarkably simple revelation feels positively cosmic, like some hidden part of me is waking up to everything he never was. And as the pianist croons A Million Dreams1, I wonder if I have ever been more myself.
And so - in the spirit of eclipse season - I dare you to be without your dreams. Don’t do it because you don’t deserve to dream, because you don’t have the right to live your destiny, because you didn’t earn your happy ending. Do it because maybe everything you’ve ever wanted is already right here waiting for you under a powdery white blanket.
Let this be the blessing from today’s roaring Solar Eclipse in Aquarius. This eclipse is personally engineered to quantum leap you into a more liberated version of yourself, to remind you that there ain’t no mountain high enough to keep you away from the infinite truth of who you are.2 So suspend your beliefs about what you can and can’t do, what is or is not allowed. Wipe your slate clean for just long enough to let Our Universe show you how much more there is to you, how much more color there is to life.
This week also washes an enormous wave of evolution into the collective consciousness, and you have no doubt already noticed the increasingly rapid, unpredictable nature of change all around you. So please also be kind to yourself, and be kind to those around you. Remember that this isn’t just a blank slate for you, it is a blank slate for everyone.
I also invite you to have faith that you will know what to do, to trust that the eclipse season tornado will blow in all the tools you need to cope with the emotional upset of sudden change. For my part - in a particularly tender moment, I was shown a surprisingly straightforward way to press the reset button on interpersonal relationships. I am still amazed at just how immediately my perception shifted; suffice it to say that sometimes all you need is a fresh perspective.
I’ll explain more next week when I’m back home, and I’ll also schedule my first live subscriber session (!) to guide you through it if you wish.
Until then, enjoy the snow -
Love,
Patrick
This is actually happening right now (!!!!!)
A MILLION DREAMS
(from the Greatest Showman)
I close my eyes and I can see
A world that’s waiting up for me
That I call my own
Through the dark, through the door
Through where no one’s been before
But it feels like home
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I’ve lost my mind
I don’t care, I don’t care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design
‘Cause every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make
There’s a house we can build
Every room inside is filled
With things from far away
The special things I compile
Each one there to make you smile
On a rainy day
They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say we’ve lost our minds
I don’t care, I don’t care if they call us crazy
Run away to a world that we design
[Hugh Jackman:]
Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make
[Michelle Williams:]
However big, however small
Let me be part of it all
Share your dreams with me
You may be right, you may be wrong
But say that you’ll bring me along
To the world you see
To the world I close my eyes to see
I close my eyes to see
[Michelle Williams & Hugh Jackman:]
Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
A million dreams, a million dreams
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make
For the world we’re gonna make
The piano player is on fire tonight! And the adoring crowd sang “Remember the day I set you free” as I wrote this sentence.
