🌟 This week’s golden opportunity is to widen your perspective with Mercury and Jupiter in Gemini. 🌟
Disagreement brings discomfort.
I realized this as I sat at a friend’s dinner table last weekend, feeling drenched in distress at the moment our perspectives diverged. And despite the many years I spent training myself to smooth things over - the talent I have honed to tell someone exactly what they want to hear - I suddenly couldn’t speak as the diplomat I learned to be. My heart just would not let my mouth utter those magic words to write us back onto the same page, and it left us sitting united only in the deeply-rooted human experience of feeling misunderstood.
I’m so glad that happened.
Because I’ve realized that when I’m so focused on generating agreement - either by expressly altering my outlook to align with someone else’s truth or expecting they will align with mine once they truly appreciate where I am coming from - there is precious little room for listening. And this, it turns out, is exactly what was needed. My friends didn’t want me to change who I was or how I saw things, and I didn’t want them to change either. We all just wanted to feel the close and loving connection we have built over so many years together, and that requires being seen, heard and appreciated exactly as we are.
It seems so simple now.
Even the very notion of disagreeing is starting to feel distant, and that uncomfortable conversation looks more like a small group of people getting more clarity on how they view and experience the world. This is a fundamentally positive thing, and it’s why diversity is so enriching. Can you imagine a political debate where everyone said the same thing? Or a meal where everyone ordered the same thing? Or an art class where everyone painted the same thing? BOOOORING 💤
Maybe the whole reason we have these separate bodies is to develop our own unique take on the world, and it’s both a blessing and a relief to accept that we will inevitably see things differently. Making room for these differences makes room for greater human connection, and it also requires that we put on our non-judgmental listening ears. We must remember that there are no “wrong” words to say any more than there are “wrong” languages, that it’s all just an expression of us.
This is the wisdom of Gemini, the place in the Zodiac where we go to mingle. Even the very symbol of Gemini (♊︎) marks its penchant to nurture parallel paths, and its emblematic twins emphasize the value of multiplicity. Gemini wants to bring us together not through agreement, but through the mutually curious exploration of the various ideas we hold. This lively exercise generates glimmers of insight to be shared by all, provided we allow ourselves to embrace the potential discomfort of diversity.
The Sun is busy buzzing above us in Gemini, and the ruler of Gemini - Mercury - is hanging out there, too. Mercury in Gemini is the cheer captain of connectivity, and it can nimbly nudge your neurons to make room for a new idea. I think of it as invitation to the cosmic coffee shop where concepts fly back and forth over the stimulating hum of espresso. This year I’ve found the pace of communication to be particularly dizzying - Mercury has been flying at warp speed since its arrival in Gemini on May 26, and it will sidewind into Cancer in just three short days.
There is no rest for the wicked this weekend, however, as Mercury plans to go out with a bang in its last conjunction with Jupiter in Gemini until 2036. Jupiter loves to say MORE, and in Gemini it likes to dazzle us with a plethora of possible perceptions. With this conjunction squaring Saturn in Aries, the key will not be to go down as many rabbit holes as you can, but rather to rewire your brain in a way that welcomes all viewpoints as valid. Because the more we widen our awareness to make room for other ways of looking at the same situation, the more energy we allow into the system to seek a solution that works for everyone.
This is what I got to do last weekend. Once I dropped the remnants of the belief that I need to convince someone else that my opinion is valid (suck it, law school!), I got to see the bigger picture about what I’m doing here in your Inbox. I don’t write to change your mind, I write to connect with you. I write because I want to share how I’m making sense of the world, and I write because I want to know how you’re making sense of the world, too.
I’m aware that so much of what I write here is personal, and I want it to stay this way. I also want this writing to be free for all to read, in line with the Generous Communication ethos I adopted last Gemini season. AND I have a lot more to offer, astrology is so wonderfully complex and I could talk about it for days/ weeks/ months/ years/ lifetimes.
So this past year my friend, producer and fellow astrologer
and I have quietly been building an Astrology Learning Path. It’s a way for me to share the fullness of my knowledge, and it’s a way for you to experience firsthand how astrology can help you live a more joyful, heart-centered life. I’ll share more on this next week as Jupiter moves into Cancer and lights up the first house of my birth chart, and we’ll launch it on the morning of June 21. Trust an astrologer to wait for auspicious timing🤣 🤣 🤣And thank you, dear reader, for listening. Hit me in the comments and let’s show this Mercury / Jupiter conjunction what we’re made of! Or - if you want to meet in person - there are a couple of chances for us to get together around the solstice this month (details below). And last but not least, Robin and I are back with a new technique from our Energy Encyclopedia: Dream Rewriting.
Love,
Patrick
PS: In the spirit of Gemini season, I invite you to share your ideas in the comments and spread the word to widen our awareness! 🐝
