Sometimes it helps to feel like it’s all about me.
And when it’s like this, I get to nix the notorious notion of separation. I remember that the whole universe lives inside of me, and I appreciate that everything around me is just an extension of my me-ness. The bluetooth keyboard I recently resurrected? It’s me. The army of succulents on my desk? Also me. The rabbit-shaped cloud on the other side of my window? Yup, that’s me out there.
The same applies to people, of course. Much like in a dream - where we readily accept that the characters we see are just parts of ourselves performing in a personalized projection - I can know that everyone I see is really just an aspect of me. And I love this perspective because it shows me that I have full agency over my life. There is no room for a passive experience if every event comes from me; I am the creative director of my own life and I am choosing what shows up in every single moment that passes.
Other times it helps to feel like it’s not at all about me.
And when it’s like this, I get to reject the ridiculous rubric of responsibility. I remember that I’m just one tiny part of the infinite universe, and I appreciate that everything around me has its own role to fill. The owl mirror on my bookshelf? It’s here to reflect. The impromptu post-it note painting on the wall? It’s here to inspire. The vial of vibrational spider web tonic? It’s here to connect.
The same applies to people, of course. You have your own life just as I have mine; your experience continues even when I’m not there. We’re all just doing our thing. And I love this perspective because it shows me that we have full permission to experience things differently. I am not making your choices any more than you are making mine, and when we come together we get to discover new ways to move through this wonderful world. This is one of my favorite insights from astrology - we all show up with a unique viewpoint.
(Peek behind the consultation curtain: I always know I’ve hit the nail on the head when a client says something like “Yes, this makes sense, but it’s really obvious - everyone knows that’s important.” It’s profoundly expansive to acknowledge that what matters to you doesn’t matter to other people, and getting to see how the word looks through someone else’s eyes is such a gift!)
What I love most is that both of these perspectives are true, and they represent equally valid ways to grow and learn. This understanding that there are two ways to look at the world is inherent in the skyward scales of Libra, where our Sun will land on Saturday. Libra season begins at the September equinox, a day when everyone on Earth finds themselves straddling day and night in equal measure. The seasons hang in balance, and we pause for a moment of unity before the hemispheres head in separate directions.
At its best, Libra is a place where we can release judgment and hum with the higher-level harmony. For example, I imagine we can all appreciate that it is not “wrong” for this Saturday’s equinox to announce the arrival of autumn in Amsterdam if it simultaneously heralds the first day of spring in Sydney. These are just two different cities on opposite sides of the planet, and in the bigger picture they will both have all four seasons over the course of a year.
It’s this kind of neutrality that allows us to create consensus, and it’s our own reactivity that blocks the way. What if everybody is always doing what they believe to be “right”? And what if you let yourself step into their stilettos for long enough to see that they’re just playing another note in the same symphony?
So it seems Libra has issued us all an invitation to find a container where everything fits. And I’m now giggling at myself as I realize I’ve already fulfilled this brief - I began this post about gracefully welcoming other outlooks by making it all about me! Libra season is also an auspicious time to ask for other people’s opinions, and I’d love to know yours - please do share it in the comments below, or drop me a note anytime.

Last week’s New Moon sowed some serious seeds in my third house of writing and communication, and I’ve started making weekly forecast videos for my nearest and dearest! I’m realizing that Substack is an awesomely powerful way to (a) share my work and (b) receive support for it, so here’s a preview of what’s to come for those who want to join me:
Deep Change Circle with Pluto in Capricorn
Come join me on Friday, October 13 (bone chills already!) to move from Fear to Power with Pluto in Capricorn. And if you’re feeling open to share your birth details, I will celebrate your choice with live personal guidance.
Pluto is reaching the end of its 15 year voyage through the sign of Capricorn, where it will not return until the year 2254. Capricorn is where we find the bedrock stability of long-standing institutions and where we expand our empires from historical legacy, and Pluto has come here to help us integrate the shadows that lurk beneath the structural foundations of our society. Join me and learn how we can navigate this transition in the best interests of yourself and the planet we call home.
Love,
Patrick
