It’s getting scary out there.
Or maybe it’s getting scary in here.
On one hand, I have never been more certain about what I want in life. And on the other, I am now terrified that I might not get it.
I know I’m out of my comfort zone because my personal security system is sending me wistful daydreams of the seemingly more stable life I once lived. It feels so soothing to imagine that I’m working for someone else, to revel in the reliable rhythm of resources flowing into my bank account, to soak in the splendid solace of commiserating colleagues. It’s a world where I can fluently foresee that my needs for the future will forever be met, where worries melt into gratitude for having a good job.
But I know that it’s also a world where there is less of me there. It’s a world where I work on projects I don’t fully believe in, where I am dependent on an arbitrary assessment of my performance to pay my bills, where I complain about the ground beneath my feet. And it’s a world where my desire to do something more - to be something more - is woefully unfulfilled.
So as I look at this unsatisfied undercurrent in the raging river of my soul, I know that the fear in my body right now is worth feeling. And as I call forth the courage for long enough to sit with my fear, I feel it dissolve into the delicious darkness of the unknown. It is a remarkable reminder that anything is possible if I open myself up to the mysterious way that Our Universe always delivers us what we seek. I am left wondering if my fear was simply a placeholder, a treasure chest filled with experiences I deeply longed for but could never envisage from behind the veil of security.
When I look up to the sky, I know that courage is calling all of us this week as our cosmic beacon of bravery Mars sinks down into the inky waters of its home sign of Scorpio. Mars finds its fiercest focus in this place of obstinate obsession, and it will not rest until its eyes are locked firmly in place on what it wants. So this is not the kind of call that can be ignored, it is a phone that rings off the hook even when you rip it out of the wall.
Mars has been in Scorpio for just over a month, so you will no doubt be familiar with the notes of dogged determination hanging in the atmosphere. The past two years have been especially choppy in the Scorpio swamp (take it from me, your local arachnid), and I imagine you’ve found it supremely demanding to keep your sights set on your soul’s burning desire with so many emotions swirling around you.
I also hope you’ve found reprieve this week, with Monday’s New Moon in Scorpio motivating our mojo to move forward while the eclipse season mud settles back to the floor. Consider this a starting pistol for a project that can be pursued with renewed persistence, a breath of fresh air into a part of our lives that has been exhaling past empty into the bottom below.
And if you thought that was peachy, get ready for fireworks today and tomorrow as Mars passes through the heart of the Sun in its biannual cazimi (kuh-zee-mee). This is the first Mars cazimi we’ve witnessed in Scorpio in 32 years, and it will assuredly pack a punch. As the blazing heat of the Sun purifies our worldly wants, Mars will shine with an intensity that pierces through even the thickest of terrors. You are invited to inaugurate a new relationship with this most pushy of planets, to take aim at exactly what you want without a single adjustment to the side.
Desires can so often be clouded with conditioned notions of what we are supposed to covet, and this cazimi energy gives us a chance to see things from a higher perspective. If you look underneath the language of want, perhaps you’ll uncover a part of yourself that doesn’t feel loved. And maybe you’ll realize that you are ready to embrace that part, that you always have the courage to be more of who you are.
