It’s happening.
It’s all happening.
As my dear friend Riina once told me several years ago, in a calmly collected and crystal clear voice - “Patrick. Everything. is. happening.”
I understood her then, and I understand her even more deeply today. It’s the definition of what “now” is. It’s the time when everything happens. So there’s never a question about whether something is happening - because it is - the only real question is whether we notice that it’s happening.
I wonder if this is why our lives are filled with surprises, why our paths through time are dotted with electric blue easter eggs and hot pink parades that we just can’t miss. Rarely do we pause to appreciate our circumstances when things turn out as anticipated, and the unexpected has a wonderful way of attracting our attention in its immediate wholeness. Surprises entice us to wake up to new iterations of ourselves, new versions of our daily experiences, new ways of relating with the world around us.
When I was in college, I used to imagine running ad campaigns for surprises in the same way there were commercials for milk and cheese. In one of them, the camera would show my sticky hungover eyes open to the sound of a persistent knock at the door. You’d see my head turn reluctantly on a lumpy, wrinkled pillow; you’d hear my raspy breath exhale the fragrant fumes of a late night house party. You’d watch my bare arm slither out from under the covers; you’d witness me fumble for a glass of water on the bedside table as I knock over a digital clock blinking 12:00.
And then, roused by the cranial reverberations of fist on wood, you’d see me peel back the covers and emerge from bed in an elegant gold sequined prom dress. The screen would fade to black as I stumbled across the room, leaving you with an existential inquiry: “Isn’t it time for a surprise?”
Well get ready for glitter, because the skies this month most certainly suggest that it is time for a surprise. More specifically, Wednesday’s New Moon in Taurus welcomed us all to work more closely with the awesomely auspicious expansion energy emanating from the Venus / Jupiter / Uranus convention in this most rooted of signs. Venus loves to make things sweeter, Jupiter loves to make them bigger, and Uranus loves to make them astonishing. In Taurus, they’ll want to tickle our senses and awaken our physical perceptions with possibility.
This makes for a time to break the mold of who you (think you) are with the power of potential. These next four weeks, you have the chance to experience - to become - a bigger version of yourself. And perhaps this starts by appreciating everything that is already happening. You can ground yourself with gratitude in “now”, you can recognize that this is (always) where your roots are.
You can do this because your “now” grows best on a diet of love, and you know that a bigger “now” will give you more room to exist in the creative infinity of Our Universe. So I ask: Where in your life would you like space to be more of yourself? And just how widely are you willing to consider and cherish what is happening in your “now”?
I’m also thoroughly taken with the symbol for the point in the Zodiac where this New Moon landed: A New Continent is Rising Out of the Ocean. It heralds original opportunity, lush life force, novel ways of being - and promises a month of enormous emergence into action, sudden eruptions of endeavor, and a freshly fertile future. So it’s only natural that Wednesday afternoon found me in the Regent’s Park rose garden with my friend Bruna, basking in the sunshine and admiring this unmistakably volcano-shaped cloud in the sky (!!!!!!!).
I hope you enjoy the new land this month has to offer, and I’m really excited to share my own burgeoning continent with you on Sunday. Maybe I’ll even call it “Subscriber Island.”🏝️ In the meantime, you’re welcome to tune into the (last) Weekly Oracle for a gratitude practice. Or if you’d like to hear how life brought me to my “now”, check out my conversation with the mellifluous Melissa O’Neill on What’s Your Story?
Love,
Patrick
