I’ve been lost in my thoughts.
Or maybe, to be more accurate, I’ve been lost in thoughts that I’m not sure are mine. That’s the funny thing about thoughts - they fly into our minds like buzzing insects, and it’s not always clear where they come from. I find this especially challenging to discern when the hum inside my head becomes too high-pitched, when things are moving so quickly that I can no longer distinguish between native and invasive species.
When it gets like this, I remind myself that I have dominion over what circulates in my mind. How could it be any other way? It’s just me in here, after all, which means that I get to set the rules. And If I’m going to meaningfully sort through my thoughts, I need to understand whether and how a thought fits into the story I want to tell about my life. So I reassure myself that I have as long as I need to identify and classify all of the specimens that I find, that being a responsible steward of my thoughts might well involve looking at each one in turn.
But what do I ask when I catch a thought, how do I know if it’s welcome? This inquiry brings me back to my musings last month about spiritual credibility, and it reinvigorates my quest to link my voice with a deeper sense of faith. I’ve come to appreciate that the highest form of spiritual credibility comes simply from enjoying your life, so perhaps the only question to ask is: Does this thought help me to love my life more?
With Mercury hot on the heels of Mars in the skies above, it makes sense that I find myself in this pointedly pensive place. Mercury looks after our fast-moving mental landscape, and Mars always loves to turn up the volume. These two are coming together in Capricorn, a sign that offers us the commitment, discipline and assured authority we need to create a lasting legacy of change. Capricorn is not a place of instantaneous reversal; it is a chance to lay the foundations for the next chapter.
This weekend, Mercury will start to cover new ground for the first time since late November and draw our attention back to the thoughts in our minds in mid-December when it stopped in the sky. As we look back to move forward, we must now choose what we bring with us. Mercifully, Mars and Mercury offer us a wonderfully sharp sword to cut through the cluttered chatter in our minds. And with the blessings of Capricorn, we can slice away self-destructive thinking to reestablish a benevolent authority in the crown.
For my part, this means diligently escorting thoughts that I am anything less than capable to the door. Maybe it’s this very exercise that shows me just how much power I have to shape my story; maybe simply slowing down to ask whether a thought is loving is the answer I’ve been looking for. Because I know that if it’s a message that I have the strength and determination to move mountains, it must come from the real me.🏔️
I take this same loving approach in the Weekly Oracle, finding the best of what the heavens have to offer us.
