We all get out of balance.
We trip over our thoughts or stumble over our emotions, inviting inevitable scrapes and bruises as we smack into the sidewalk that is life. And it’s really easy to judge ourselves for these falls, maybe because at some point we learned that we were supposed to remain perfectly upright in all circumstances. So we deliberately shrink our injured selves into invisibility, sheepishly concealing the scabs and scars that decorate our skin.
Inner child inquiry: Little kids (or at least my little kids) LOVE to show off their bruises, bumps and band-aids as the well-earned badges of honor that they are. Why don’t we do the same?
But when we pause to breathe in the cacophonous complexity of the conditions in which we find ourselves, it is astounding how skillfully we navigate our lives. Even on the most basic level, appreciate how many parts of your body must come together for you to take a single step forward. Consider how many different surfaces you walk on, how you move seamlessly from pavement to dirt to grass. Notice how deftly you weave your way to your destination through crowds of people moving in all directions.
You do this is in every area of your life, brilliantly navigating the ever-changing seas in your love life, your family, your community, your career. And the most impressive thing about this is that you find your balance without even having to think about it. You know so deeply what it is to be balanced that you don’t even have to give it your conscious attention… until you take a metaphorical (or actual) tumble. But far from being moments of failure, these are those precious times when life delivers you the opportunity to tune in. You have been gifted an awareness that something is out of kilter, a chance to reset and realign yourself with your (heart) center.
Eclipses mark time when the ground is much less steady, so these next few weeks we may all find ourselves on our butts. As streetlights flicker out and sudden changes rush in from the shadows, we simply can’t expect to move forward with the same level of certainty. What we can (always) do is pay attention. We can bring ourselves back to the place where we stand right now, and we can carefully choose where we put our foot down next. We can look for the support of the soil that lies underneath, and we can be grateful for the gravity that ensures we will always - however awkwardly - land squarely on the Earth.
Monday’s Lunar Eclipse will come to us from the sign of Libra, the cosmic beacon of balance. Libra is the realm of relationship, a place that prizes harmony, agreement and compromise. Libra wants us to see that there are two sides to every story, and it wants to bring them onto the same page. In this vein, Libra’s ruling planet Venus loves nothing more than to create a mutually beneficial union in the highest interests of all involved - a cosmic win-win-win.
There are times, though, when that coherent collective narrative feels elusive. Maybe people don’t pause to understand our perspective, maybe we react in ways that widen the distance between us. We can feel pained as these connections pull away, or we can look to rebalance our own internal landscape. We can learn to forgive our differences with the grace that space allows. We can ask ourselves why we feel the need to be understood. We can question the purity of intention that we bring into interactions with the world around us.
Lunar eclipses entreat us to close emotional doors, and this will feel palpable as Monday approaches. This particular Eclipse finds the Moon with its South Node, a cosmic drain point that requires the release of stagnant energy. In Libra, this gives us a chance to cleanse clogs from the channel of cooperation. We must remember that we do not need to collaborate with those who are simply not ready or willing to see our version of the truth. And as we separate, we must trust and respect ourselves enough to know that we are worthy of acceptance for all that we are.
So as we move through this seismic shift together, perhaps the best (only?) place we can find solid footing is in our hearts. We can choose to love ourselves enough to let go. And if we look up into the skies above to see Venus shimmering in Pisces, we can remember that the most important place to find union is in our endlessly sparkling Universe. We can give ourselves the tender permission to surrender our impassably rocky relationships to the great big beyond, and we can know that we will always have the chance to meet again with open arms.
If you’d like some support as you steer through the choppy waters of eclipse season, you are welcome to join (live or later) my (free) Eclipse Season Energy Clearing (full details below). We’ll use energy exercises to release our resistance to the change afoot, and we’ll connect with the infinitely available support of the Universe we call home. We talk more about the Lunar Eclipse in the Weekly Oracle, and I offer some simple techniques you can use to bring yourself back into balance as Monday fast approaches.
See you on the other side -
Love,
Patrick

Weekly Oracle
This week we feel into the wisdom of the Lunar Eclipse in Libra and lean into the understanding that we are all living the same thing from a different vantage point. We watch our trigger finger move to the heart space as Mars enters Pisces, and remind ourselves that advocating for compassion means advocating with compassion. And we check in with Mercury’s journey through Aries, knowing that we’ll get a chance to revisit our relationship with heated communication.
